Taipei, May 6 Taiwanese manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. saw its sales for April hit a high for the year as the company received deferred orders from the first quarter, when production was interrupted by the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement released Tuesday, iPhone assembler Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn on the global market, posted NT$380.93 billion (US$12.74 billion) in consolidated sales, up 9.57 percent from a month earlier and up 0.3 percent from a year earlier.

Hon Hai said the latest sales figure were also its highest ever for April.

In the first four months of this year, Hon Hai's consolidated sales stood at NT$1.31 trillion, down 8.74 percent from a year earlier.

In April, the computing devices division enjoyed the largest increase in shipments from a month earlier, ahead of divisions rolling out products for enterprise use, electronic components, consumer electronics and smart gadgets, Hon Hai said.

The effects of deferred orders are expected to continue into the second quarter, the company added.

The world's largest contract electronics maker has said its sales for the first half of this year should be little changed from a year earlier.

On Monday, Hon Hai said its production sites in China are running normally and denied rumors it had put large numbers of workers on furlough.

The denial came in response to reports from China and Hong Kong which said Hon Hai's unpaid leave program began May 1 and will continue until Sept. 1, a move necessitated by Apple Inc. closing its stores outside China because of the spread of the new coronavirus disease.

Hon Hai is one of the largest Taiwanese investors in China, where it has a sprawling production base and employ a workforce of more than 1 million.
