PGO Wins Taiwan Excellence Awards for Sixth-year Running

Two PGO-brand vehicles produced by the Motive Power Industry Co. won prizes in the 2008 Taiwan Excellence Awards organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, proving once again the company's product development prowess and the quality of its vehicles.

Motive Power has now won Taiwan Excellence prizes for six years in a row. In fact, all of the products it has entered in the competition have been winners.

Since 1991 the Taiwan Excellence Awards have been recognizing innovation and quality in products that were developed, designed, or produced on the island. Hundreds of items are submitted each year, and are judged by an international panel of experts on their "Innovalue"-innovation plus added value.

This year over 600 entries were submitted and two PGO vehicles were among the winners: the I'ME 125cc scooter and E-BUBU electric scooter. The scooters were chosen because of their state-of-the-art design and high quality, as well as their conformity with the trend toward protecting the environment.

The I'ME complies with the local Environmental Protection Administration's (EPA's) fifth-stage emissions standards, the most stringent in the world, which will go into effect at the beginning of next year.

Motive Power has integrated several new elements into its scooters, including fashionable design, European styling, and its own manufacturing expertise.

The styling of the I'ME is minimalistic and neutral, resulting in simplicity and streamlined curves. The vehicle aims to provide performance, environmental friendliness, and practical functions.

Motive Power is among the first companies in Taiwan to introduce fifth-stage emissions compliance, thanks partly to an electronic fuel injection (EFI) system that incorporates technology and know-how derived from the aerospace-grade injection technology developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States. Motive Power uses true closed-loop fuel injection with a built-in self-diagnosis system that warns the driver of impending problems in their earliest stage. The EPA has given the I'ME an energy-conservation citation for having an energy-saving rate of 22%, the highest of all Taiwan-made scooters.

The company wants the I'ME to be a fashion statement as well as a mode of transportation. According to its marketing division, when you ride the I'ME the fashion center of the world is not New York, London, Paris, or Milan, but your own mind.

Classical Exterior, High-Tech Interior

The purely electric E-BUBU is also unique and different from other scooters in both its classical styling and its technology. It has an innovative intelligent dual electric power (IDEP) system and a brand-new dual battery system that uses a lithium-ion battery to store electricity and supply it at a stable rate to a lead-acid battery, which puts out the higher power needed to driver the motor. This design, says the company, prolongs the life of the lead-acid battery by preventing frequent deep discharges while reducing vehicle weight.

The portable lithium-ion battery pack used in the vehicle weighs only 2.5 kilograms and can be stored in the luggage compartment for recharging at home.

Motive Power claims that its new electric scooter provides greatly improved performance, and is therefore expected to rectify the bad image of electric scooters in the minds of consumer. With its "green" credentials, it should do much to boost the popularity of these environmentally friendly vehicles.
