Taiwan Accelerates Towards Global Auto Tech Standards
2024/10/08 | By Andrew HsuThe Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC) announced on October 4 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TÜV SÜD, a leading third-party testing and certification organization. This partnership aims to build Taiwan's standardized verification capabilities in compliance with United Nations regulations UN R155, R156, and R157. These regulations focus on vehicle cybersecurity, Over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and Lane Keeping Systems (LKS), all crucial areas for modern automotive technologies.
ARTC emphasized the growing importance of smart cars in the era of artificial intelligence, which also presents significant security challenges, particularly the risk of hacking that threatens both vehicle safety and consumer privacy. In response, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has established regulations addressing automotive cybersecurity (UN R155), OTA (UN R156), and self-driving systems like LKS (UN R157). Taiwanese manufacturers of intelligent EV components and systems must comply with these regulations if they wish to sell products in Europe.
By collaborating with TÜV SÜD, ARTC seeks to develop a verification platform that adheres to these international standards. This cooperation will help local industry players reduce the time needed for product entry into global markets and improve the international competitiveness of Taiwan's automotive sector.
