Hong Kong Lighting Fair Illuminates Future with 'LIGHT & LIFE' Theme
2024/11/13 | By Andrew HsuOrganized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the 26th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) brought a global spotlight to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Alongside the Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo at AsiaWorld-Expo, the event welcomed industry professionals worldwide with the theme “LIGHT & LIFE,” solidifying its position as a premier annual gathering in the lighting industry.
Sophia Chong, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: “The recent Policy Address proposed several measures to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international trade centre. The fairs created cross-industry sourcing opportunities and attracted some 60,000 buyers in total. The number of buyers from Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, and the Netherlands increased from last year. Eco Expo Asia also drew many new buyer groups, including from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), showing that ASEAN and Middle Eastern buyers view Hong Kong as an important trading and sourcing platform. These fairs further solidified Hong Kong's role as a trade centre which also promotes green and low-carbon development.”
The Autumn Lighting Fair not only provides the industry with a one-stop business platform but also reveals industry trends such as sustainable development, healthy living, and innovative design. The Connected Lighting Zone, which made its debut last year, has been upgraded to the Hall of Connected Lighting, reflecting market demand for high-quality design and innovative smart solutions. The hall features over 50 internationally renowned brands such as Japan's JDI, Finland's LEDiL, the Netherlands' Signify, Austria's Tridonic, Mainland China's TUYA Smart, as well as newcomers like Poland's TOPMET and Australia's Zencontrol.
To showcase the latest industry trends and aesthetics, renowned lighting designer Tino Kwan and his team, in collaboration with OFT Interiors founder CM Jao, have curated the GLOW & GROW - How Lighting Enriches a Space lighting installation at the fair. The lighting fixtures and systems used in the demonstration space are jointly sponsored by the world-renowned architectural and commercial lighting brand ERCO and dynamic lighting experts TRAXON | e:cue.
Taiwan’s presence was marked prominently, with exhibitors spanning key areas like the Hall of Aurora on the first floor, as well as Commercial, Residential, Smart, and LED Lighting sections across the third and fifth floors. Economic Daily News/CENS, in collaboration with the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA), led the organization of the Taiwan Pavilion. Featuring 70 exhibitors across 152 booths, this large-scale showcase—second only to the Hong Kong Electronics Fair—provided Taiwanese exhibitors with a strategic platform to present cutting-edge products and incorporate ESG principles. The pavilion highlighted Taiwan’s high manufacturing standards under the MIT (Made in Taiwan) brand, showcasing forward-thinking designs and sustainable solutions.
TLFEA President Wenjie Kang emphasized the importance of the fair amid global economic uncertainty and deflationary pressures, noting that it is a top choice for the association’s annual exhibition lineup. With mounting challenges in domestic and international markets, Kang encouraged increased participation in major trade shows as a key strategy for companies to access emerging markets and new clients. He underscored the need for businesses to strengthen ties across supply chains while embracing ESG and AI trends to meet evolving global demands.
The first day of this year’s event saw an overwhelming response, with long lines forming at the buyers’ check-in counters and the Taiwan Pavilion. This surge, combined with strong demand for MIT products, left exhibitors optimistic not only about this year’s fair but also about 2024. To maximize engagement, HKTDC coordinated visits from buyer delegations from Europe, the U.S., and Asia, reinforcing the fair’s reach and bolstering exhibitors’ confidence in their global impact.
