Taiwan Rides Aftermarket Wave at Automechanika Frankfurt 2024

While demand for OEM parts appears relatively weak, the aftermarket sector continues to thrive, with manufacturers reporting a surge in orders for aftermarket components.
As one of the world’s largest automotive parts and accessories exhibitions, this year’s Automechanika Frankfurt focused on key industry themes such as digital transformation, sustainable mobility, and artificial intelligence. The event attracted exhibitors from over 170 countries, with approximately 4,200 companies participating, drawing global attention. China and Taiwan led in terms of exhibition scale, with Taiwanese manufacturers showcasing their expertise in automotive electronics and R&D, while Chinese companies benefited from substantial government subsidies.
Industry experts noted a unique development at this year’s event. While aftermarket manufacturers in Europe and the U.S. continue to experience robust growth, the performance of OEM part suppliers has been underwhelming. Notably, international brand sales in Europe have seen a significant decline, particularly due to a flood of electric vehicle imports from Chinese factories, arriving before new tariffs are enforced. Additionally, with Europe’s economic performance stagnating, demand for new cars and OEM parts has weakened. In contrast, Taiwan’s aftermarket manufacturers have benefited from stronger demand.
Practitioners also pointed out the rise of automotive electronics, fueled by the rapid development of electric vehicles. This year, Automechanika Frankfurt introduced an automotive electronics stage, which has emerged as a new area of opportunity. Despite the aftermarket focus, Germany’s local first-tier suppliers are actively seeking collaboration with international partners, opening up more prospects for Taiwan’s automotive component manufacturers.
While Automechanika Frankfurt 2024 expanded in scale, the increased number of exhibition halls dispersed visitor traffic. However, exhibitors from Taiwan reported that the buyers visiting their pavilion were more targeted, showing clear intentions to engage. Beyond European visitors, the exhibition also attracted buyers from Central and South America and the Middle East. Additionally, local first-tier suppliers in Germany were actively scouting for alternative supply sources, further boosting opportunities for Taiwanese manufacturers.
