Taiwan's Industrial Stalwarts Rewire for EV and Hydrogen Future
2024/06/24 | By Andrew HsuIn response to the emerging trend of new energy vehicles, the heavy electrical equipment, wire, and cable industry have been actively expanding into new fields. Companies such as Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery, Fortune Electric, Shihlin Electric & Engineering, and Allis Electric, are at the forefront of this transition.
Fortune Electric, Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery, Shihlin Electric & Engineering, and Allis Electric are all making significant strides in the electric vehicle industry. Fortune Electric's subsidiary, EVALUE, has introduced electric vehicle charging station operations and supply equipment to various vehicle manufacturers, achieving a high market share. Shihlin Electric & Engineering has established a strong partnership with eTreego, focusing on smart charging cloud services, and has shipped charging stations to the U.S. Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery's subsidiary, iCharging, has secured the right to operate charging stations on highways. Meanwhile, Allis Electric is concentrating on the future demand for electric buses.
In addition to the electric vehicle charging supply chain, Taiwan has also incorporated hydrogen energy into its strategy for achieving net-zero emissions. Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery has been deeply engaged in the hydrogen energy sector, focusing on reformed methanol as its core technology. This approach addresses the safety issues associated with the transportation and storage of hydrogen. The company has successfully developed two series of products for mobile vehicles and power generation. Utilizing a BOL (Build, Operate, Localize) business model, they provide one-stop local services to assist manufacturers in acquiring power systems. Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery has already made inroads into markets in India, China, and the United States.
Hydrogen vehicles represent a crucial future application, offering solutions to mobile pollution sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Hydrogen can also extend the life and usage of batteries in electric vehicles while reducing their weight, making it a significant development area for the hydrogen industry. The future development of the hydrogen energy industry is promising, and an early deployment will be advantageous to Taiwan manufacturers.
