Gov't to work with semiconductor industry in ensuring stable chip supply
2021/05/19 | By EDNAmid Taiwan's COVID-19 outbreak, the Economic Ministry addressed concerns over whether the current situation would impact the semiconductor industry, stating that the government will assist companies in ensuring protocols are in place in the case of employees contracting the virus.
The Economic Ministry stated that protocols are in place to ensure a smoother transition for the global supply chain should Taiwan enter Level 4 Alert. Government measures include assisting shuttling employees to and from work, ensuring minimum exposure to potential confirmed cases.
The ministry also reported that based on its understanding, domestic semiconductor companies are maintaining stable production without any further impact on their orders.
Monday saw 333 new cases, as reported by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), while Tuesday saw a slight dip to 240 new cases, and 267 cases on Wednesday.
The National Development Council announced yesterday afternoon regarding strengthening the indutry's spandemic measures to protect the island's production chain from facing similar fates as what the world had seen last year.
Many of Taiwan's ICT suppliers have already implemented automation into the production chain, Economic Ministry representatives had said during the press conference. International clients had also required Taiwanese suppliers to transition into modular production; therefore, segregating measures were already in place.
