Foxconn Engages European Auto Parts Talks for Tier 1 and EV Market Entry
2020/10/20 | By CENSFoxconn is looking to explore cooperation with European tier 1 auto parts suppliers in developing 3D auto-use curved glass covers. The electronics manufacturer is also reportedly engaging in talks with European auto firms to make curved, one-piece system consoles and dashboards.
In a bid to diversify its product line, Foxconn's plans to enter the lucrative auto parts industry began with providing glass covers for Audi's production chain. By introducing its 3D curved auto glass cover, Foxconn aims to attract OEM auto suppliers with mature molding and mold-designing capabilities and applying that to future auto smart cabins.
Foxconn technicians revealed to Economic Daily News that their factories in Miaoli and southern Hsinchu would handle the 3D curved auto glass cover production. The curved glass will integrate touch-screen panel designs, an area where Foxconn is collaborating with Innolux Corporation, and 5G communication applications.
Aside from the European market, Foxconn is looking to tap into American, Japanese, and Korean OEM auto firms with the 3D curved auto glass cover.
For the curved, one-piece system consoles and dashboard segment, Foxconn is employing miniLED auto panel design technologies for production, which goes against the manufacturing methods most competitors use. Foxconn is aiming to apply it to the electric vehicles field. Internal technicians revealed that Foxconn has engaged in direct talks with European firms, citing promising opportunities in the future to supply complete production chains.
