2012/08/30 | By Quincy Liang | NAN HOANG TRAFFIC INSTRUMENT CO., LTD.Nan Hoang Traffic Instrument Co., Ltd. is the largest supplier of friction-material products in Taiwan. Established in 1961, the company has gained ISO9002, QS9000, ISO14001, and ISO/TS 16949 certification and has developed about 7,000 products that have proven popular with global automobile and motorcycle manufacturers, first-tier brands, and aftermarket parts customers. The products meet ECE R90 and TUV quality approval and comply with SAE, JASO, DIN, and CNS test standards, making them especially sought-after in the high-performance segment.
Having celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and entered its second half-century, president Fred Cheng says, the company has kicked off several big projects.
One of the projects is the supply of high-end brake pads to a Japanese customer for use in wind generators, marking entry into the clean-energy industry. Nan Hoang plans to supply top-end frictional materials for high-speed trains and mass rapid transit trains, and is developing samples that are expected to be certified soon. The company is also preparing to move up in the market by producing more friction parts for super sports cars and racers.
As part of its effort to become a supplier to makers of passenger cars, trucks, agricultural machines, motorcycles, and bicycles, Nan Hoang has signed an agreement with an American automaker and has sent samples to it for approval. Cheng says his firm has already supplied products to over 30 carmakers worldwide and is always trying to enlarge its market share.
Nan Hoang is an eco-conscious manufacturer that uses green formulas in production and is working on advanced formulas that meet the low- and zero-copper requirements of major American automakers. (Some American states are proposing laws to limit the copper content of brake pads to less than 5% by 2025.) Nan Hoang is ahead of the game; it has already developed friction materials with less than 3% copper, and will have developed zero-copper materials by the end of this year, according to Cheng.
Further proving its integrity, Nan Hoang has raised its product safety insurance to US$5 million. It is also installing the world's most advanced testing and inspection equipment for friction materials and parts to further boost product precision and facilitate entry into parts for new segments such as trucks, rolling stock, and wind generators.
Nan Hoang launched its own "YangPo" brand in the second quarter of 2011 with an eye to the development of the market in China.
