Bearings, seals, technical consulting services
2009/05/05 | By Ben Shen | SKF BEARING SERVICES TAIWAN LTD.A member of the Sweden-based SKF Group's 190-strong branches and subsidiaries worldwide, SKF Bearing Services Taiwan Ltd. has been in existence since 1989 after the Swedish conglomerate resolved to set up a direct-sale subsidiary in Taiwan. Now SKF Taiwan directly reports to the group's Asia-Pacific Operating Center in Singapore with products coming from the plants in Italy, Germany, France and Sweden.
SKF Group, founded in 1907 by Swedish engineer Sven Wingguist, inventor of the self-aligning ball bearings, is the world's leading supplier of products, solutions and services in the area comprising rolling bearings, seals, mechantronics, services and lubrication systems. The group's service offer also includes technical support, maintenance services, condition monitoring and training.
Today, SKF Group is the largest manufacturer of not only bearings in the world, but also seals, linear-motion products, maintenance products, condition-monitoring systems as well as industrial decision support systems.
SKF Taiwan currently has a work force of 70 with three branches, including technical service and administrative units, each in northern, central and southern Taiwan. The company has a central warehouse in Sanchung of Taipei County responsible for delivering goods island-wide.
Charles Chang, managing director of SKF Taiwan, notes his company is dedicated to helping domestic manufacturing industry upgrade production skill for securing sustainable operations, particularly in an industrial-transition period domestically. Over the past two decades since its inception, SKF Taiwan has introduced a flurry of sophisticated manufacturing skill and such precision components as bearings and spindle systems to help domestic manufacturers of machine tools create more value-added services.
Chang says his company's major customers come from the four sectors of industry (mainly on the original equipment manufacturer basis), end-users, distributors, and vehicle services. In addition to solid products, the company also provides such services as technical consulting and bearings selection, bearings repair and maintenance, bearings assembling and processing, and technical training.
SKF has also developed remote condition monitoring services for critical machinery on board ships that improves ships' uptime and availability (efficiency) and reduces operating costs. SKF-certified engineers analyze operating data collected from the selected machinery on board the ship, and prescribe remedial actions where necessary.
To retain the position as a leader in the world's bearing arena, SKF will strenuously step up services through an in-house quality-control system to help customers continue interruption-free operations. (BS)
